Love Island bosses ‘plan Christmas special’

‘Love Island’ bosses are planning to reunite this year’s cast for a Christmas special.
Producers of the hit ITV2 show are said to be "in the process" of recruiting the former villa residents for a festive episode of the programme – which could take on the format of spin-off show ‘Love Island: Aftersun’, on which contestants are interviewed in front of a studio audience – and it will no doubt be "tense" after five of the nine couples split up.
An ITV source said: "Bosses have been wanting to get the cast back together for a few years now but have finally been given the green light because of the success of this year’s show.
"They know exactly the kind of drama that viewers want to see and getting together the couples who have split will certainly make for tense viewing.
"Producers are in the process of getting people to sign up and they are hoping that everybody agrees to it."
‘Love Island’ couples Samira Mighty and Frankie Foster, Laura Anderson and Paul Knops, Jack Fowler and Laura Crane, Charlie Brake and Ellie Brown, and Georgia Steel and Sam Bird have all gone their separate ways in recent weeks after they got together on the hit summer series.
And show bosses are also considering bringing back stars from former series to mix things up on the Christmas special episode.
The source added to The Sun’s Bizarre TV column: "Lots of ideas have been floated around including bringing back some of the old stars.
"If they get on well with this year’s contestants then sparks could fly."
Producers are said to have already contacted this year’s winners, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, about appearing on the festive show.
Earlier this month, Jack supported the idea that ‘Love Island’ can provide a successful career as opposed to Oxbridge, after it was revealed the 85,000 applications producers received for the reality show outweighed those submitted to attend the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge universities.
He said: "I can’t say, ‘Don’t go for your education’, but in terms of the opportunities and doors it can open for you, it has changed my life for the better and created opportunities for me. So for me personally that would be the way forward … the world is my oyster at the moment."
