Lorraine Stanley once auditioned for ‘Coronation Street’ but was rejected after messing up her northern accent.
The ‘EastEnders’ actress joined the BBC One soap for a brief stint as Thelma Bragg in 2016 and later that year she landed a role as regular character Karen Taylor, but she may have been treading the ‘Corrie’ cobbles instead after trying out for the rival programme.
She said: "I went to audition for Corrie once. I did a character with a northern accent for the read-through. But when I got there on the day, I just couldn’t do the accent."
Unfortunately for Lorraine but fortunately for ‘EastEnders’ fans, she was only able to put on the northern twang while "messing around".
She said: "I can only do it when I’m messing around. I was gutted."
Despite missing out on the Weatherfield role, Lorraine has no hard feelings and hasn’t ruled out appearing on the cobbles one day if she’s required.
When asked if Karen could be in another soap for one day, she replied: "It would have to be ‘Coronation Street’ – I’d work behind the bar."
What’s more, the 42-year-old actress would love to try her hand at ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ or ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: "I think I’d do ‘Strictly’ and get my dancing shoes on – show them how it’s done.
"Although people always say how much hard work it is, so I might backtrack on that.
"But I love a challenge and I really enjoy dancing – plus they need people who aren’t as able.
"Clair [Norris, who plays Bernadette Taylor] could teach me a move or two, she’s brilliant.
"I’d go into the jungle on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, too. I think I’d enjoy that. I’ve jumped out of a plane before, and I’ve done bungee jumps, too."
