Lorraine Kelly praises Coronation Street’s ‘genius’ 10,000th episode

Lorraine Kelly says Coronation Street’s 10,000th episode was "genius".
The TV presenter and self-confessed ‘Corrie’ superfan was delighted with the milestone ep, which aired on Friday (07.02.20) and contained plenty of nostalgia as Rita Tanner – played by Barbara Knox for 48 years – was tasked with taking her late husband Dennis Tanner’s ashes to Blackpool.
While speaking to former cobbles star Catherine Tyldesley (Eva Price) on her show ‘Lorraine’, the host said: "Did you see the 10,000th episode? It’s genius.
"It’s what I would call proper ‘Corrie’. It’s just people talking. Nobody is getting shot or hidden under a dungeon or something, it’s just characters we love and know talking.
"It was brilliant."
Catherine replied: "I’ve got it on record. I can’t wait to see it. Everyone is telling me that."
Lorraine admitted she "misses" Catherine on ‘Corrie’, and the former ‘Strictly’ star hinted she would love to reprise her role in Weatherfield "one day", but has "a lot going on" at the moment.
She said: "Never say never, I do love it. It was such a big part of me.
"One day, absolutely.
"I’ve got a lot going on at the minute, I’m very lucky."
Prior to the 10,000th episode, Lorraine spoke to ‘Corrie’ legend Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts), who admitted she didn’t even realise Coronation Street’s milestone episode was approaching until she read the script.
The 76-year-old soap stalwart – who has played Audrey Roberts on the ITV show since 1979 – said: "I hadn’t realised until we all got the scripts and said, ‘What’s this about?’. I had to be told and said, ‘Oh my God, how do you know exactly?’
"It’s nice, it’s just a little view into the world that was, that still is, and that is to come. And drama.
"There’s nobody shot, nobody is pushed out of the bus."
