Lorde thinks it is "cool" to be a role model.
The 17-year-old singer – who won Best International Female at the BRIT Awards last night (19.02.14) – doesn’t want to "preach" to her fans, but thinks it is nice that people are interested in hearing her opinions.
She told the new issue of America’s Vogue magazine: "There’s a fine line between role model and preaching to people. I never want to tell anyone how they should be, especially not someone my age. But, that being said, I’m conscious of the fact that people my age are reading what I say and listening to what I say, and that’s cool, particularly for the girls who are into what I do."
When it comes to her own inspirations, the ‘Royals’ hitmaker singled out David Bowie and Grace Jones because they have their own sense of self.
Asked whose style she admires, she said: "People like Grace Jones and David Bowie, who have a sense of themselves."
And when it comes to her own wardrobe, Lorde looks for outfits that make her feel "powerful".
She said: "The kind of clothes that I’ve found I like to wear over the past year and six month have all been things that make me feel powerful and strong. I wear a lot of pants I wear a lot of long structure dresses."
