Line of Duty filming resumes for sixth series

‘Line of Duty’ has resumed filming for the upcoming sixth season.

Production on the upcoming BBC series will continue after a six month break amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the team will be adhering to script and comprehensive protocols to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.

Confirming the exciting news, showrunner Jed Mercurio said: "We know ‘Line of Duty’ fans are desperate for series six and we hope we can get it on air as soon as possible.

"Thanks so much for your patience in these difficult times."

The upcoming season will see series regulars Martin Compston (Steve Arnott), Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings) and Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming) reprising their roles.

The new episodes of the police corruption drama will feature a brand new case for the AC-12 team as they investigate DCI Joanne Davidson – played by Kelly Macdonald – after she looked into an unsolved murder case.

Martin said: "It’s been a long few months and it will be a different way of working from when we stopped, but I’m delighted to be back on the case with the ‘Line Of Duty’ team!"

His co-star Vicky added: "Been sitting on these incredible scripts for some time now, so I’m really looking forward to getting back to it and seeing the ‘Line Of Duty’ family."

And Adrian commented: "Even with the imposition of Covid restrictions I can’t hide my excitement at getting the team back together. So many people wondering… what happens next?"

Meanwhile, Simon Heath – executive producer for World Productions – added that everyone involved was "delighted" to get back to work in a safe manner.

He said: "t’s been almost six months since we stopped shooting, but following our implementation of all the industry Covid protocols, we’re delighted to be able to resume filming series six safely."

The team has been in contact with independent health and safety consultants and industry partners, and will follow all current government guidelines on set.

The first five series of ‘Line of Duty’ are available to watch on BBC iPlayer, while season six is now due to air on BBC One next year.
