Lily Allen ‘robbed’ of Mercury Music Prize

Lily Allen has claimed she was "robbed" after losing out on the 2018 Mercury Music Prize.
The 33-year-old singer broke down in tears at the prestigious award ceremony on Thursday (20.09.18), which took place at the Eventim Apollo in London’s Hammersmith, and later insisted she should have taken home the coveted accolade, which was won by rockers Wolf Alice.
Sharing a video of her stripped back performance of song ‘Apples’ at the prize giving, she wrote on Twitter: "Someone call 999 I’ve been robbed. (sic)"
While Lily later admitted Wolf Alice – who are made up of Ellie Roswell, Joel Amey, Joff Oddie, and Theo Ellis – were "very deserved winners" for their second album ‘Visions of a Life’, she is determined to triumph at the ceremony one day.
She tweeted: "I adore @wolfalice tho, and they are very deserved winners. Next time……… imma win that b***h. (sic)"
Lily previously admitted it would be "amazing" if she took home the award, after she was nominated for her comeback album ‘No Shame’.
She said: "There is a caricature version of myself which is portrayed in the mainstream press, and the artist part of me gets lost a lot of the time.
"Already being nominated has helped with that immensely, but to win would just be amazing."
Wolf Alice performed their track ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’ at the ceremony, and then returned to play the song again when they were announced as the Prize’s winners.
Upon accepting the gong, frontwoman Ellie said: "This means so much to pick this up with my three best friends! Oh, I’m really nervous!"
But her band mate Theo had to step in when she became too overwhelmed to continue speaking, and he added: "Listen. So basically, when we first started as a band. I remember the first label meeting we ever had, we walked into the room, and the geezer said ‘The f**k? You lot don’t look like a band at all. What are you? What are you supposed to be? All your songs sound different, you don’t look like each other.’ And we never really figured it out. But here we are – so f**k you!
"He also said he didn’t wanna work with women who wore make-up because it was a bunch of fuss, but here we are. And you know what? This is … I actually can’t believe it. Noel Gallagher’s f***ing sat there looking at me, what are you supposed to say? Big up everyone who was nominated, thank you so much to everyone who’s ever supported us. This means the world. Thank you so much!"
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine, Jorja Smith, Everything Everything, Everything Is Recorded, King Krule, Nadine Shah, Novelist, and Sons Of Kemet also lost out to Wolf Alice.
