Les Dennis leads tributes to Keith Harris

Les Dennis has led tributes to the late ventriloquist Keith Harris.

The ‘Coronation Street’ actor paid his respects to the TV legend on Twitter after it was announced this morning (28.04.15) that he had passed away aged 67 after battling liver cancer.

He wrote: "So sad to hear of the death of Keith Harris. RIP."

‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star and TV presenter Keith Chegwin also praised the star and credited him with being a "great entertainer".

He wrote: "So sad. A great entertainer and all round nice man Keith Harris has passed away. Best wishes to his family at this sad time. RIP x (sic)"

The comedian Julian Clary also paid his respects, writing: "Rest in peace Keith Harris. Lovely, funny talented man."

Meanwhile, the documentary maker Louis Theroux – who spent time with Keith during the making of his show ‘When Louis met… Keith Harris’ in 2002 – tweeted: "RIP ventriloquist Keith Harris. Lovely man. My thoughts are with his family."

The famed entertainer, who is best known for his comedy acts with lovable puppets Orville the Duck and Cuddles the Monkey, passed away at Blackpool Victoria Hospital after a battle with cancer.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Keith’s agent Robert C. Kelly wrote: "Sad to announce death from Cancer of my client, dear friend and great talent, Keith Harris.(sic)"

The comedian became a family favourite in the 70s and landed a prime-time Saturday evening programme on BBC One, ‘The Keith Harris Show’, in the 80s.

As well as his television career, the ventriloquist reached number four in the UK singles charts in 1982 with ‘Orville’s Song’.

Keith is survived by his wife and three children.
