Leonardo DiCaprio lucky to work with Martin Scorsese

Leonardo DiCaprio feels honoured to have worked with Martin Scorsese.

The 39-year-old actor was nominated for best actor at the BAFTAs last night (16.02.14) for his portrayal of Jordan Belfort in the Scorsese-directed film, ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, and admits he feels lucky to have worked with the filmmaker on more than one occasion.

He said: "The truth is I was lucky enough to do one film with him and five is beyond my wildest dreams. He really has the finger on the pulse of our culture and he says something about humanity with his film-making."

The ‘Titanic’ star first worked with the renowned director on ‘The Gangs of New York’ followed by ‘The Aviator’, ‘The Departed’ and ‘Shutter Island’ but their relationship became even closer working on their latest project – which took them seven years to bring to the bring screen – but he wasn’t expecting to be nominated for the award.

Speaking to E! on the red carpet at London’s Royal Opera House, he said: "I don’t predict any of these things and have no idea what’s going to happen, but to be here with a film like this that takes a lot of chances is an amazing feeling. This is really the second film in my career I got behind and did everything to get made."

Leonardo was up against Tom Hanks for ‘Captain Phillips’, Christian Bale for ‘American Hustle’, Bruce Dern for ‘Nebraska’ and Chiwetel Ejiofor – who took home the coveted prize for his outstanding performance as Solomon Northup in ’12 Years a Slave’.
