Lauren Jauregui: I won’t stop talking politics

Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui feels obliged to speak out about against social injustices.
The 21-year-old beauty stars in the chart-topping girl group alongside Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei and Dinah Jane, and Lauren has revealed she is determined to use her platform to voice her own beliefs.
She shared: "Lots of people want to keep (politics) out of their art because they assume the role of, ‘I’m the distraction, I’m the escapism, I’m the thing that people use to check out of the world,’ so a lot of people don’t want to get involved, not because they’re scared, but because they don’t want to have those conflicts.
"[But] I think it’s important as heck when you have a million-plus people listening to you, to let them know that you’re aware of what’s going on and you’re part of the struggle, too."
Normani echoed her bandmate’s sentiment, saying the girls are aware of the messages they send to their young fans.
She told USA Today newspaper: "I feel like it starts with the younger generation.
"And that’s why we’re really careful about what we’re talking about in our music, because we’re speaking to the younger generation, we’re responsible in a way."
And Lauren wants the ‘Work from Home’ hitmakers to send a clear, hopeful message to their ever-growing fanbase.
She said: "Don’t allow fear to rule your life. Everything that’s going on in the world, it’s propaganda and it’s things that have happened in the past before.
"This is not new, this is unfortunately a mentality that’s been prevalent for a long time, and it’s coming back around right now."
The brunette beauty also said people can overcome their troubles through the strength of unity.
Lauren – who came out as bisexual in 2016 – explained: "I think the most powerful thing we can do in the face of an administration trying to cause so much division is to eliminate fear from our vocabulary, and to not allow the fear they’re trying to instil in us affect us.
"It has to start with your communities, with yourself, with your families, then you fix the world."
