Kym Marsh calls for end of ‘mum shaming’

Kym Marsh has called for "mum shaming" over breastfeeding "to stop".

The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress has insisted it is "unfair" for people to "slate women" if they cannot breastfeed their babies, after admitting she was unable to.

She said: "I couldn’t breastfeed any of my children; I didn’t produce enough milk and it just didn’t happen for me.

"People slate women for it, but it’s so unfair.

"The mum shaming on both sides of the argument has to stop. We’re all just trying to do the best for our children."

Kym also branded it "mad" that actress Georgia Tennant – the wife of actor David Tennant – had a picture of herself breastfeeding removed from Facebook, and believes women are "damned if they do and damned if they don’t".

Writing in her OK! magazine column, she added: "Actress Georgia Tennant slammed Facebook after it removed a photo of her breastfeeding her baby for being ‘too sexual’.

"I think that’s mad. Breastfeeding is a natural thing! How can they make a decision like that? There is so much controversy around it – women can’t win! They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t."

Kym – who has kids David, 25, and Emilie Cunliffe, 23, with ex-partner Dave Cunliffe, and nine-year-old daughter Polly with ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Jamie Lomas – recently called for people to "stop bashing each other" about breastfeeding

She said: "There’s a lot of pressure on new mums, particularly around breastfeeding.

"I think people have to stop bashing each other."
