Kylie Minogue turns rail station announcer for BBC Music Day

Kylie Minogue is joining a host of musicians in taking over the UK’s rail announcements for BBC Music Day (28.09.18).
The ‘Golden’ singer has recorded several messages which will be heard at Network Rail stations in Birmingham, Bristol, Euston, Glasgow Central, Kings Cross, Leeds, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, London Victoria, London Waterloo, Manchester and Reading, in a bid to get commuters dancing and enjoying music on the broadcaster’s special day.
The recordings all begin with: Hi, it’s me Kylie."
Followed by the likes of: "I know what you’re thinking; ‘Why is Kylie doing the announcements?’ It’s because it’s BBC Music Day … so I can! Have a great weekend, everyone! Happy BBC Music Day!"
And: "Happy BBC Music Day! For your safety and comfort, everybody’s doing a brand new dance now. Come on commuters, do the locomotion!"
As well as: "This is a special announcement: Please let passengers sing and dance their way off the train first before trying to get on board! Happy BBC Music Day everyone!"
Joining the Australian pop superstar as ambassadors for BBC Music 2018 is war-time singer Dame Vera Lynn, Chic legend Nile Rodgers, choirmaster Gareth Malone, saxophonist YolanDa Brown, 90s R&B star Gabrielle, 80s pop star Lisa Stansfield, singer/songwriter Nina Nesbitt, gospel star Wayne Ellington, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, classical star Carly Paoli and indie rockers Blossoms.
Vera, 101, commented: "I congratulate the BBC on staging their UK-wide Music Day.
"It is so important that we never lose sight of the importance of music.
"It is so powerful and has the unique ability to comfort and console us, raise our spirits and unite people from all walks of life by transcending any boundaries of communication or differences of opinion.
"It is, I believe, one of the great joys of life and I welcome the opportunity for people to have a little more music in their day."
Bob Shennan, Director BBC Radio and Music, added: "With an incredible range of performances taking place across the UK and extensive coverage across BBC TV, Radio and Online, BBC Music Day 2018 is bigger than ever before. I’d like to thank all the Ambassadors championing the event and the fantastic choirs, community groups and transport networks helping us to make this the best ever BBC Music Day!"
As well as their train announcements, the ambassadors will also be involved in various live events, broadcasts and special performance to mark the day.
40 choirs will perform up and down the country, whilst highlights will include a secret performance from ‘I Can’t Stand It’ hitmakers Blossoms and BBC Radio 2 has a very special BBC Music Day All Request Friday with Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo which features Nile Rodgers and Chic at Maida Vale studios.
