Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia have gone on vacation.
The couple are taking a well-earned break in Majorca with their daughters Princess Leonor, eight, and Princess Sofia, seven, after a month of state visits following their coronation.
The queen and her daughters arrived in Majorca from Madrid yesterday (05.08.14) with the newly-crowned king joining them shortly afterwards after first travelling to Belgium to join dignitaries for a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War One.
Though the family are on holiday, Felipe will still have to work.
He will meet with Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to attend a reception where he will be officially presented as the monarch to over 200 socialites from the Balearic Islands.
The king has reportedly broken tradition to invite 30 extra guests to the event, including personalities from the world of sport, culture and economics.
As well as the king and queen – who have undertaken state visits to Portugal, France and Morocco since taking the throne in June – See Mallorca reported the monarch’s mother Queen Sofia, her sister Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark and her daughter Infanta Elena have also been seen on the island this week.
