King Felipe and Queen Letizia’s low-key date night

Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia enjoyed a low-key date night in Madrid on Saturday (27.09.15).

The royal couple – who have just returned to Spain following an official visit to the US – went to the cinema to see Woody Allen’s ‘Irrational Man’ before enjoying a late dinner at Cajun restaurant Gumbo.

A witness, Elsa Aguado, told El Mundo newspaper: "They arrived without warning. They came on their own. Even the waiters were surprised, because they hadn’t booked a table in his name. Apparently, it was the first time they’d been to the restaurant."

Although they attempted to keep a low profile, Felipe and Letizia happily posed for pictures with fellow diners at the restaurant.

After their meal, the pair enjoyed a romantic stroll around Calle Pez (Fish Street) at 1.30am before going home.

One thrilled passer-by tweeted: "Madrid has cool things. But to be walking around Malasana and bumping into the [royals] is something else."

Meanwhile, it’s been a tough year for the brunette beauty so far as her grandfather sadly passed away two months ago.

Francisco Rocasolano, 98, tragically died in hospital in Salamanca, Spain in July due to coronary problems.

Queen Letizia was forced to cancel her arrangements to assist the National Fashion Awards ceremony at the Museo Del Traje in Madrid at the time in order to be with her family.
