Kelsey Grammer: Frasier revival will deal with John Mahoney’s death

Kelsey Grammer says the ‘Frasier’ revival will have to "deal with" the death of John Mahoney.
The 63-year-old star – who played psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane in iconic sitcom ‘Cheers’ and his own popular spin-off – revealed the new series will address the real life death of the man behind on-screen father Martin.
Appearing on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’, he revealed: "The first principle is that it is a different story, basically. Same group of characters but in a different setting. Something has changed in their lives.
"Certainly, John Mahoney died over a year ago and we would probably deal with that a little bit, with dad being gone."
Mahoney passed away aged 77 in February last year, and he received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his performance in the sitcom.
Grammer has described the upcoming reboot as a totally fresh take on the premise, and said it was a "third act" rather than a "trying to pick it up" from where they left off.
He added: "[Frasier’s] passed the radio show. He might be an art dealer. He might be a professor. We don’t know yet."
During its 11 year run, ‘Frasier’ won a record-setting 37 Primetime Emmy Awards, so a network deal seems to be a matter of time once Grammer and the team have finalised a script.
The original sitcom finished with Frasier leaving his life – and family and friends – behind in Seattle as he moved to start a new life in Chicago.
