Keeley Hawes can’t escape Bodyguard

Keeley Hawes can’t "escape" her ‘Bodyguard’ alter-ego Julia Montague.
The 43-year-old actress is tired of talking about the award-winning BBC show, which saw her character killed off, and even gets stopped in the streets of Corfu, Greece, where she films her ITV drama ‘The Durrells’ by people who recognise her as the Home Secretary – who was protected by Richard Madden’s PC David Budd.
Speaking to the latest issue of RadioTimes magazine, she said: "This is the best place for me right now, I think! Being away from it all is amazing – in the middle of nowhere on a small Greek island.
"Although I’ve still heard what’s going on.
"It seems there’s no escape from ‘Bodyguard’.
"Even here in my Corfu bubble people come up and ask me about it!"
Keeley has since starred in ‘Mrs Wilson’ and Channel 4 series ‘Traitors’, and although she admitted the reaction to Julia’s assisantion was "the nicest thing", she wishes people would talk about her other roles.
She said: "The reaction is the nicest thing in the world but, I mean, I’ve done three things between ‘Bodyguard’ and this – all completely different – and being here now is wonderful.
"A total escape on a beautiful island. That’s the fun part of my job, isn’t it?"
Meanwhile, Keeley admitted that she is finding it difficult to say "goodbye" to ‘The Durrells, which is coming to an end with its fourth and final series, but admitted she would rather the comedy goes out on a "high".
She said: "Saying goodbye is incredibly sad … I can barely talk about it.
"But it’s the right thing to do – it’s always better to go out on a high."
She also teased that the show’s creator Simon Nye has written the "perfect end" for the series.
"And I really hope that people will be happy with the way we’ve decided to end their story.
"Because it’s tricky. Everyone’s really invested in The Durrells. I’ve really invested in them! So, I hope we’ve done the right thing by the fans and the Durrell family.
"And that it’s a satisfying conclusion to this chapter of their lives. Simon Nye [the series writer] has created the perfect end."
