Katy Cavanagh has announced she is leaving ‘Coronation Street’.
The actress is quitting her role as unlucky-in-love factory worker Julie Carp after seven years on the cobbles to "pursue other projects and opportunities".
In a statement, she said: "I have decided it’s time to take a break from the cobbles and pursue other projects and opportunities. I have loved every minute in the world of Julie Carp and I’m not ruling out a return to the Street in the future. However I am looking forward to a new challenge and a pair of flat shoes."
Producer Stuart Blackburn is sad to see Katy leave the show but is hopeful she will come back to Weatherfield in the future.
He said: "Julie Carp has become a warm, wonderful and eccentric character able to raise a laugh and a tear in the same scene. Everyone at ‘Corrie’ wishes Katy all the very best and hopefully as far as Julie is concerned, the cobbles haven’t seen the last of her."
Katy will leave in late spring in a storyline that will see Julie’s relationship with businessman Dev Alahan implode following a trip he takes to India.
After being forced to re-evaluate her life Julie – who is the half-sister of Eileen Grimshaw – decides she needs to leave Weatherfield and start afresh.
