Katie McGlynn to appear in Corrie after character death

Katie McGlynn will continue to feature on ‘Coronation Street’ after Sinead Tinker’s death.
The 26-year-old soap star’s alter ego will lose her battle with cervical cancer next week but soap boss Iain MacLeod has confirmed video messages recorded by Sinead for Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and their son Bertie will be played in future scenes and have a significant impact.
Asked if the audience will see the clips, Iain said: "Yes we will.
"Without giving too much away, that situation becomes quite fraught at some stages and we wonder if we’ll ever get to see them.
"We do and they are initially comforting for Daniel, but then they assume a slightly outsized and obsessive significance for him.
"There’s one particular element in one video that he discovers belatedly and it tips him off an even keel. I think it’s fair to say he’s almost self-medicating with these tapes.
"It’s the only thing that brings his stress levels down to a normal level. But then there’s a troubling element in the tapes that threaten to tip him over a precipice again."
The messages are "family focused" but Iain teased one in particular will have wider consequences.
As for whether there are any further messages recorded for people other than Bertie and Daniel, he added: "Not directly no, they are all family focused, but there is one that has significance more broadly than just for Daniel and Bertie but it’s still aimed at them."
And Rob, who plays Daniel, warned his character’s fascination with the clips could spell trouble.
He said: "It’s like a Mirror of Erised situation – the mirror from ‘Harry Potter’! He gets so much comfort out of it but there’s a danger he will sit there wasting away in front of it forever, looking at something that will never happen."
