Katie McGlynn lands first post-Coronation Street role in hit BBC drama

Katie McGlynn has landed her first post-‘Coronation Street’ role.

The 27-year-old actress – who left the cobbles earlier this year when her character Sinead Tinker lost her battle with cancer – has been cast in the fourth series of BBC drama ‘The Syndicate’ after holding talks with writer Kay Mellor, who she was "so nervous" to meet.

She told OK! Magazine: "I’ve always wanted to work with her. I was so nervous because I’d only played Sinead for seven years, but Kay was lovely and put me at ease."

The former soap star is looking forward to playing a "rough around the edges" character, and she described her new role as a departure from his ‘Corrie’ alter ego.

She added: "The character is completely different to Sinead, which I love. She’s a single mum and she hasn’t got a lot of money."

It seems there could be more shows on the horizon for Katie in the future, as her representative has hinted at further plans.

In a statement to the MailOnline, her rep said: "She has had a lot of offers for a variety of different shows over the past few months and is looking forward to getting stuck into work as soon as possible.

"[She is] beyond thrilled to have landed a new role so soon after leaving ‘Coronation Street’.

"Her first meeting post-‘Corrie’ was with Kay Mellor and they are both really excited to be working together on a new series of ‘The Syndicate’ for BBC One.

"Katie was due to start filming in April with the read through planned for just before the lockdown happened.

"They are aiming to start filming in August and she can’t wait to play someone completely different after nearly seven years as Sinead."
