Katie McGlynn admits Corrie future is ‘up in the air’

Katie McGlynn has admitted her ‘Coronation Street’ future is still "up in the air".
The soap star’s pregnant alter ego Sinead Tinker has been diagnosed with cervical cancer – on Monday’s (14.01.19) episode it will be revealed that she requires immediate radiotherapy – and the actress has revealed she still doesn’t know how the storyline will end after she has an emergency Caesarean with husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) by her side.
She told the Sunday Post: "I’m contracted well into this year but it is up in the air. Although I have to wait and see what happens, I quite like not knowing.
"With the nature of my storyline, I guess it’s 50/50. Either way I’d be happy, though."
The on-screen couple’s newborn baby Bertie is rushed away by nurses in the emotional scenes after Sinead collapses.
If the storyline does mean the end of the character on the cobbles, Katie has admitted she will have mixed feelings because while leaving the show would be sad, it will give her new opportunities as an actress.
She added: "I’ve really enjoyed my time on the Street and it’d be amazing if I got to stay as it is like a family here.
"But at the same time, as an actor, I’d love to go out there and see what there is. I like doing different things and it’d be exciting to see if I could play a different character again."
Her comments come after ‘Corrie’ boss Iain MacLeod admitted he he still "hasn’t decided" whether to kill off Sinead or not.
The executive producer previously said: "It’s a really long running story and we genuinely haven’t decided what we are doing with the ending.
"Certainly, the longer it goes on the harder it becomes to kill Sinead because Katie and Rob have been so good in it – they’re almost acting their way off the butcher’s block.
"I have an open mind about it. There’s a beautiful story to tell with an optimistic ending but equally, a very truthful story to tell where it doesn’t work out."
