Kathleen Kennedy wants Taika Waititi to helm s Star Wars film

Kathleen Kennedy wants Taika Waititi to helm a ‘Star Wars’ movie.
The 64-year-old film producer took over from George Lucas as the President of Lucasfilm back in 2012 and became ‘Star Wars’ brand manager after The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm.
Whilst promoting the eighth instalment of the hit sci-fi franchise ‘The Last Jedi’, Kennedy revealed she would love to see the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ filmmaker take on one of the sci-fi movies.
Speaking to Newshub, Kennedy said: "I would love for him [Waititi] to direct a ‘Star Wars’ movie. I think he has exactly the right sensibility. It was very exciting to see him step into the Marvel universe and do such an amazing job with ‘Thor’."
Although the current Skywalker saga already has its directors – with Rian Johnson helming ‘The Last Jedi’ and J.J. Abrams returning to direct ‘Episode IX’ after kicking off the new trilogy with 2015’s ‘The Force Awakens’ – Lucasfilm recently announced a brand new trilogy separate from the current saga is in the works.
Lucasfilm have signed up Johnson, 43, to a new three film series, the first of which he will write and direct, with long-time collaborator Ram Bergman on board to produce.
Kennedy said: "We all loved working with Rian on ‘The Last Jedi’.
"He’s a creative force, and watching him craft ‘The Last Jedi’ from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy."
No release dates have yet been set for the movies. It has also been announced that a live-action ‘Star Wars’ TV series is going into production. The show will air on Disney’s own upcoming streaming service by the end of 2019.
The programme will be the first series within the universe since ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ was introduced in 2014. The animated series recently began its fourth season.
