Katherine Dow Blyton feared Emmerdale murder scene

Emmerdale’s Katherine Dow Blyton was worried about filming her murder scene due to social distancing.

The 55-year-old actress – who plays Harriet Finch on the Yorkshire soap – is involved in a brutal plot line, which saw Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) fatally shoot Malone (Mark Womack), after Harriet bludgeoned him on the head.

But Katherine initially feared how the scene would look as the cast and crew have to remain two metres apart to minimise the spread of the coronavirus.

Appearing on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Tuesday (01.09.20), she explained: "It was a bit of a worry, because I certainly couldn’t see how it was all going to work.

"But Duncan Foster, who directed it, and all the camera guys and the crew and everything had worked it out brilliantly.

"So that was a two-metre distanced crack on the head with a kettle, which I actually think looked like I was cracking him over the head with a kettle."

Similarly, Olivia has also paid tribute to her co-stars for their work on the emotional scenes, with everyone having to adapt to their new surroundings.

She added: "I absolutely loved working with Mark Womack and of course my partner in crime Katherine Dow Blyton on these episodes.

"They are both so brilliant and it was such fun to have such high soapy drama. We were also lucky to have Duncan Foster directing who is fantastic.

"Obviously we had to change a lot due to Covid 19 – socially distanced filming isn’t easy, so it took a lot of work to keep the tension and drama of the script whilst adhering to the new rules."

‘Emmerdale’ gradually resumed filming in May after production was postponed due to the pandemic, with actors slowly returning but Katherine is yet to reunite with some of her close pals.

She said: "It’s a shame that we’re not seeing as many of our actor chums because we’re all in smaller groups and working just with the people in our storylines, so that’s a bit of a shame. But you do get used to it."
