Kate Winslet has ‘bitter regrets’ over Woody Allen film

Kate Winslet has admitted she has "bitter regrets" about working with Woody Allen.
The ‘Titanic’ star previously defended her decision to appear in his film ‘Wonder Wheel’ despite allegations he sexually molested his daughter, Dylan Farrow.
But while accepting an award at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, Winslet said: "I wouldn’t be able to stand here this evening, and keep to myself some bitter regrets that I have at poor decisions to work with individuals with whom I wish I had not."
After pausing to regain her composure, she continued: "It has become clear to me that by not saying anything, I might be adding to the anguish of many courageous women and men. Sexual abuse is a crime. While it rests with the rule of law to pass judgement, it lies with all of us to listen to the smallest of voices and to never stop listening."
The 42-year-old actress was speaking as she was honoured with the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film.
Winslet worked with Allen on his upcoming film ‘Wonder Wheel’, which also stars Justin Timberlake, Jim Belushi and Juno Temple.
‘The Reader’ actress faced backlash last year after she justified her role.
Speaking at the time, she said: "Of course one thinks about it. But at the same time, I didn’t know Woody and I don’t know anything about that family. As the actor in the film, you just have to step away and say, I don’t know anything, really, and whether any of it is true or false. Having thought it all through, you put it to one side and just work with the person.
"Woody Allen is an incredible director. So is Roman Polanski. I had an extraordinary working experience with both of those men, and that’s the truth."
Polanski has lived in exile from the US since being charged with five offensives, including rape by use of drugs, against a 13-year-old girl in 1977. Kate appeared in his 2011 film ‘Carnage’.
Winslet joined a string of actors in rebuking Allen following his daughter’s claims.
Colin Firth, who appeared opposite Emma Stone in Allen’s 2014 movie ‘Magic In The Moonlight’, said he will not work with him again.
Selena Gomez, who stars in his upcoming film ‘A Rainy Day In New York’ made a "significant donation" to the Time’s Up Legal Defence Fund.
The 25-year-old actress’s donation is reported to be much more than her salary was for the movie.
Whilst her co-star Timothée Chalamet also donated his fee, splitting the money between the Time’s Up movement, The LGBT Center in New York, and anti-sexual assault organisation Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).
Farrow published an open letter in The New York Times in 2014 alleging that Allen molested her in an attic when she was seven and accusing Hollywood of turning a "blind eye".
The director has denied the allegation and previously accused the Farrow family of "cynically using the opportunity afforded by the Time’s Up movement to repeat this discredited allegation".
