Kate Garraway’s jungle proposal

Kate Garraway’s husband proposed to her again after she came out of the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ jungle.
The 52-year-old presenter married Derek Draper – the father of her kids Darcey, 13, and 10-year-old Billy – in 2005 but he "fell in love" with her "all over again" watching her cope with life in camp so is keen to reaffirm their commitment to one another and they are now planning to renew their wedding vows.
However, the psychotherapist’s new proposal didn’t quite go according to plan.
Kate explained to You magazine: "You’re told you can’t take any jewellery into the jungle.
"I didn’t want to take my wedding ring off, as I never have since we got married. But I did take my engagement ring off.
"When Derek came to meet me after I left the jungle, he was planning to propose to me again [with the ring, in front of the TV cameras], but he got overwhelmed and burst into tears. The kids leapt out and surprised me and Darcey said, ‘Oh Dad – you didn’t do it!’ So he got down on one knee and proposed… and I said yes, obviously."
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter admitted being on the show away from her family reminded her of all the reasons why she’d fallen for her spouse in the first place.
She said: "It was such a tearful, emotional moment.
"Sometimes, when you’ve been married for a long time, you almost forget what brought you together in the first place. And actually with all those people in camp, much as I loved them, it reminded me exactly why I’m with Derek.
"There were things I’d say that perhaps other people wouldn’t get and I realised what a connection Derek and I have. When you come out of the jungle, everything is overwhelming, even the smell of food. But the one thing that didn’t feel a problem was being back with Derek and the children."
Kate admitted it was the emotional connection with Derek that she missed the most.
Asked if she was dying to jump into bed with him after three weeks apart, she said: "If you’re asking me if I still fancied him, yes I did.
"You do talk about missing your partner in the jungle but it’s emotional. I guess the physical relationship goes with that, but it’s not the overriding thing."
