Kate Garraway is ‘living in hope’ of husband’s recovery

Kate Garraway is "living in hope" that her husband will make a full recovery from the coronavirus.

The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter – who married Derek Draper in 2005 – is said to be remaining confident her partner will survive the respiratory illness after being hospitalised in March despite doctors warning he might never wake up.

Speaking to nurse Mandy Mitchell – who spent 93 days in intensive care after testing positive for the virus – on the ITV breakfast show, Kate’s co-host Piers Morgan said: "You’re a fantastic inspiration to everybody who may have a loved one who is still in intensive care and may be worried sick about whether they’ll come out.

"We have one of our own, Kate Garraway, whose own husband is in this terrible position. We wish them, as always, all the very best.

"But they’re living in hope. You give people hope because you came through it. I know you’ve got some side effects but other than that you must just be thrilled to be alive."

She replied: "Oh goodness, I’m thankful for life every day. It’s so precious."

Kate, 53, recently vowed to "never give up" on Derek, 52, in an emotional Instagram post on Father’s Day (21.06.20).

She wrote: "Whatever happens next I’m afraid it IS going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isn’t even nearly in sight right now.

"BUT. This week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.

"Hope- because I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in NEVER giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover."
