Kate Ford: Wear a mask!

Kate Ford has slammed "youths" for not wearing masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The ‘Coronation Street’ star has hit out at people who don’t wear masks on public transport, despite it currently being the law in the UK amid the ongoing global health crisis.

Kate claimed it’s "utterly depressing" to watch people "not giving two s****" about the virus, and slammed young people in particular for flouting the rules.

She tweeted: "Sorry to bang on about this but hardly anyone on the tram in Manchester is wearing a face mask and those that are have them pulled down. London is so much better most seem to be wearing. I found it utterly depressing.

"I genuinely really sad about it, seeing all the older folk abiding by the rules and youths piling on not giving 2 s**** (sic)"

Kate’s comments didn’t go over too well with some of her fans, though, as one Twitter user responded to defend young people.

The user wrote: "Please don’t assume it’s all young people, that’s quite a sweeping statement, my 2 & their friends have been abiding by the rules, working for the NHS I saw neighbours clapping every week while then continuing to have visitors in & out of house throughout lockdown! (sic)"

And Kate then responded: "I didn’t assume that, I am relaying what I witnessed TODAY and today made me feel upset (sic)"

The 43-year-old actress later retweeted a message from Greater Manchester’s night time economy adviser Sacha Lord, who urged people to follow the guidance and help ease the strain on local hospitals.

The message read: "If you are planning on going out this weekend, please do your bit for Greater Manchester. Too many frontline hospitality staff are having to deal with customers who are simply disregarding all guidance."

Kate was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, and ‘Coronation Street’ is filmed in the city’s MediaCityUK development.
