Karen Gillan joins Call of the Wild

Karen Gillan has joined the cast of ‘Call of the Wild’.
The ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ star has signed up to star alongside Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens in the live-action motion picture, which is based on the 1903 Jack London novel of the same name set in Yukon, Canada, during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush.
According to Deadline, Gillan will take on the role of Mercedes, who is inexperienced at surviving in the Northern wilderness, in the movie.
Ford will play the part of experienced outdoorsman John Thornton, who hunts for gold in the Yukon, one of the Canada’s three federal territories.
It’s not yet known who Stevens will portray, but Omar Sy and Colin Woodell have also signed up for the film.
Chris Sanders is set to direct the motion picture from a script by Michael Green, and the movie is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day 2019 (25.12.19).
Diana Pokorny and Ryan Stafford will executive produce the project, and Erwin Stoff will produce.
Clark Gable previously took on the role of Thornton in 1935’s ‘Call of the Wild’, alongside Loretta Young, Jack Oakie and Reginald Owen.
What’s more, Charlton Heston played the part in a 1972 big screen adaption of the book.
Gillan is currently in the final stages of filming the next ‘Avengers’ movie – the title of which is yet to be revealed – as her ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ character Nebula, and production will begin on her ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ sequel next year.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ actress is expected to fit in filming for ‘Call of the Wild’ in between the two projects.
