Kara Tointon will star in The Halcyon

Kara Tointon has been cast in ‘The Halcyon’.
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress – who recently played the lead role Maria in ‘The Sound of Music Live’ last year – will star alongside Matt Ryan, Steven Mackintosh, Olivia Williams, Alex Jennings, Hermione Corfield and ‘Eddie the Eagle’ star Mark Benton in the forthcoming period drama.
The new series, which was commissioned in December 2015, will be set in the 1940s and will explore the impact of the Second World War on the staff and guests staying in the five-star London hotel during the traumatic period, with American journalist Joe O’Hara observing the happenings.
Filming for the eight part 60-minute series has begun, and is reportedly set to rival successful dramas ‘Mr Selfridge’ and ‘Downton Abbey’, which came to an explosive end last year.
Meanwhile, the production, which is created by Charlotte Jones and produced by ‘Downton Abbey’s Chris Croucher will see music from the likes of Beverley Knight and Jamie Cullum, who has recorded two tracks for the show.
Additional stars set to act in the upcoming programme include Sope Dirisu, Liz White, Charity Wakefield, Annabelle Apsion, Jamie Blackley, Ed Bluemel, Nick Brimble, Michael Carter, Akshay Kumar, Imogen Waterhouse, Nico Rogner, Kevin Eldon and Lauren Coe.
