Justin Hawkins brands Harry Styles ‘unforgettable’ and Coldplay ‘dull’

The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has branded Harry Styles and Coldplay’s music “completely forgettable” and “dull”.

The I Believe In A Thing Called Love hitmaker is not afraid to offer up his honest opinion of other artists’ tunes and can be seen dissecting tracks on his popular YouTube channel Justin Hawkins Rides Again.

Discussing the One Direction star’s 2022 solo song As It Was, he said it’s a cookie-cutter version of ’80s classic Take On Me by A-ha.

The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column quoted him as saying: “In pure statistical terms, most music by definition is average and it doesn’t really move me.

“So there’s a load of stuff that you can just neglect.

“There are things that are so derivative of existing and very specific songs from the Eighties, that in 40 years time, you’ll still be singing the ones from the Eighties.

“That Harry Styles song, that’s Take On Me by A-ha but they started the chord sequence in a different place. It goes around the same four chords and it has a similar sort of motif on the synthesizer.

“But that song in 40 years will be completely forgotten and everyone will still be singing the A-ha one. And I think that’s fair.”

He then said of Chris Martin and co: “Nobody’s going to be singing Coldplay.

“I don’t care.”

Justin’s critique of Harry and Coldplay comes after he and his brother and bandmate, Dan Hawkins, recently riled up fans of Yungblud.

They sparked upset when they blasted the I Think I’m Okay hitmaker’s MTV VMAs tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne.

Yungblud previously slammed “bitter and jealous” rock star critics after he took to the stage with Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt and Aerosmith duo Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to pay tribute to the late Black Sabbath icon, who died aged 76 in July.
