Julie Walters cast in Indian Summers drama

Julie Walters will star in new Channel 4 drama, ‘Indian Summers’.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress has been cast as expat society member Cynthia in the 10-part series about the last days of British colonial rule in 1932, according to RadioTimes.com.

Channel 4 said in a statement: "At the heart of the story lie the implications and ramifications of the tangled web of passions, rivalries and clashes that define the lives of those brought together in this summer which will change everything."

The drama is set against the "sweeping grandeur of the Himalayas and tea plantations of Northern India", and will tell the story from both the Westerners point of view and the local people’s.

Julie will be joined by Craig Parkinson, last seen as in BBC Two’s ‘Line of Duty’, who is going to play the leader of a missionary school.

Meanwhile, Henry Lloyd-Hughes will play "coolly ambitious" Ralph Whelan, the Private Secretary to the Viceroy of India, and ‘The Borgias’ actress Jemima West stars as his sister Alice, who falls for the Junior Clerk in her brother’s office, Aafrin (Nikesh Patel).

Mr Selfridge’s Alexander Cobb has also been cast as Ian McLeod, a young and naïve Scottish tea plantation heir.

The series, created and written by Paul Rutman, is due to start filming this summer for a 2015 air date.
