Julie Andrews: I am devastated to hear of Garry’s passing

Dame Julie Andrews has been left "devastated" by Garry Marshall’s death.
The 80-year-old actress worked with the filmmaker – who passed away aged 81 from pneumonia complications on Tuesday (19.07.16) – on ‘The Princess Diaries’ with Anne Hathaway and is saddened by the loss of the "generous" director.
She said in a statement: "I am devastated to hear of Garry’s passing. He was a dear friend and colleague….generous to a fault.
"My heart goes out to [his wife] Barbara and the entire family. We shall miss him."
Meanwhille, Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Alba – both of who were in Marshall’s film ‘Valentine’s Day’ – also paid tribute to him with Kutcher tweeting: "I lost a friend & mentor. We lost a beautiful man & masterful story teller. Gary Marshall I love you. I hope I get to go where you are" and Alba calling him "a true pioneer."
Australian actress Rebel Wilson also tweeted her condolences as she had only met him a month before his death.
She wrote: "I met Garry Marshall backstage last month at The Little Mermaid concert. I was just amazed and in awe of him. He was so lovely, so talented.(sic)"
Goldie Hawn, who also collaborated with Marshall throughout his lengthy career, posted to Instagram: "I met Garry Marshall backstage last month at The Little Mermaid concert. I was just amazed and in awe of him. He was so lovely, so talented."
‘Glee’ star Lea Michele, took to Twitter with a photo of her with the director with the caption: "So sad to hear about the passing of the incredible Garry Marshall.. You will be missed"
Steve Carell deemed him as a "lovely man."
Actress Mandy Moore – who also worked with him on ‘The Princess Diaries’ – took to Instagram to pay her tribute.
She wrote: "What a gem of a man. He was just the kindest, the most patient, the most human and so, so wildly funny. He also did me me the favor of a lifetime and gave me my very first job (at 16) on "The Princess Diaries". Thank you for all the glorious means of laughing and crying and feeling whole and connected, Garry.(sic)"
Fellow director Ron Howard called Marshall "a great friend" in his tweet.
He added: "I miss Garry already. He leaves a huge void for all who were lucky to be in his orbit. A great friend."
‘Ghostbusters’ remake director Paul Feig gave his beloved pal credit for giving his career a kick-start as he said: "RIP Garry Marshall. He was an amazing person and gave me my first true exposure to the industry. You will be missed. #TheDesertInnHasHeart."
