Julian Casablancas praises Charli XCX for remaining ‘humble’ amid Brat’s ‘huge social moment’

Julian Casablancas has praised Charli XCX for remaining “humble” and handling the “huge social moment” that spawned from her album ‘Brat’.

The Strokes frontman, 46, is thrilled that the 32-year-old pop star is finally get the level of “fame” and recognition she deserves and jumped at the chance to feature on the remix of the track ‘Mean Girls’ from her chart-topping LP.

Appearing on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, he said of his feature on the ‘Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat’ remix album: “That was very serendipitous. I actually can’t believe how fast it happened, I feel like it was a few weeks ago that she asked me, and I was in LA. I sang, I spent a day doing stuff.”

He added: “I feel like fame has never hit someone at a better time, ’cause she’s been around a long time.

“She’s aware of the moment, this huge social moment, but also not taking herself too seriously, she handles it well, but also is humble… that’s why I wanted to do it. She was so cool.”

The ‘360’ hitmaker wanted to get Julian on board for the club track as people often aren’t aware The Strokes are really a “dance band”.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she said: “It was fun on the remix album to bring all of these people in, some of whom aren’t particularly connected to the club world when you would think about it on the surface, but actually, Julian Casablancas, for example.

“When I think about Julian, it’s like, ‘Okay, has this sort of history with Daft Punk and also…

Zane interjected: “And The Strokes are a dance [band].”

Charli continued: “Yeah, exactly.

You talk about New York downtown, people were partying then and really in a hardcore way, and so I think he of all people understands how to capture that kind of an energy in a room and on the songs. It was definitely crazy pulling that all together.”
