Josh Gad calls sick children as Frozen’s Olaf

Josh Gad makes phone calls to sick children in the voice of Olaf from ‘Frozen’.
The 36-year-old actor voiced the beloved snowman in the hit 2013 Disney animated movie, and has admitted he often gets "choked up" when he makes the emotional phone calls to children with terminal illnesses, whose one wish is to speak to the goofy character.
He said: "I actually get choked up thinking about some of the kids that I’ve left messages for because it’s so … it’s so fleeting. It’s such a little thing that I do that goes such a long way for these children. But you take their mind off of it for a minute, for a day."
And Josh – who recently began voice recordings for ‘Frozen 2’ – added that he hopes his work will also provide a "distraction" for the parents of the children he calls, and thinks its his "job" as Olaf to bring joy to as many children as possible.
Speaking to Buzzfeed, Josh said: "Hopefully you give their parents a distraction. As a parent, it’s the hardest thing to think about and, you know, I take ownership of the fact that that’s as much my job as doing the voice for commercial reasons. The fact that it has transcended that is such a wonderful thing, but it’s also really sad. I would take all of it back if it just meant that the kids could have a normal life. You know at the end of that call is another call where the child is gone."
Meanwhile, Josh recently admitted that his own children – Ava, six, and Isabella, three, whom he has with his wife Ida Darvish – are "spoiled" when it comes to the world of ‘Frozen’, as he often reads them books about the fictional characters in the voice of Olaf, and so "every day is a sequel for them".
He confessed: "They’re a little spoiled, because I read to them these stories at night. When I read a book about ‘Frozen’, I read it as Olaf. So, they get it firsthand. So, for them, every day is a sequel for them."
