Jonathan Ross lands new comedy show

Jonathan Ross has landed a new stand-up comedy show.

The 59-year-old television presenter will bring comedians to their fans with his latest programme, ‘Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club’, which will see up-and-coming funnymen and women perform on stage while following social distancing guidelines.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Jonathan is always the first to champion up-and-coming talent and this new series will see him get behind fresh new comedians on the cusp of their big break, offering them a stage upon which to make people laugh."

Along with the fresh faces, an established comedian will also take the stage to try out new material on their audience.

The source added: "Each episode will see four new comedy faces perform to an audience and more established names will get the opportunity to try out new material."

The show is set to start this autumn alongside the star’s other hosting duties on his chat show ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ and his judge role on ‘The Masked Singer’.

Jonathan’s co-star Davina McCall confirmed the ITV hidden identity singing competition would return this September.

She said of the show: "It’s coming back! We are going to start filming in September or October."

The judging panel – including Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, Davina and Jonathan – and host Joel Dommett were left in the dark about the show’s future as the coronavirus pandemic halted production, and filming was rumoured to have been pushed back to October.

While the judges have now been given the green light, Davina is still unsure if an audience will be able to join the panellists in the studio.

But after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced plans for the two-metre social distancing rule to be reduced to just one metre, Davina is hopeful fans will be allowed to gather in the next few months.

She said: "The audience situation will be easier with a one-metre rule.

"But things are changing so rapidly now with the easing that September is a lifetime away. It may well be that social distancing has gone out the window by that point."
