Jonah Hill: MIB and Jump Street crossover was a joke

Jonah Hill insists the ‘Men In Black’/ ’21 Jump Street’ crossover movie was meant to be a "dumb joke".
The 32-year-old actor came up with the idea, which already has a script and James Bobin attached to direct, but now the ‘War Dogs’ star – who starred with Channing Tatum in both ’21 Jump Street’ and the follow-up ’22 Jump Street’ – has admitted he doesn’t think the film will ever actually happen.
He told DigitalSpy: "We came up with the idea for it and my friend Rodney [Rothman] wrote it, but I don’t know if we’re ever going to make it. Maybe one day. It doesn’t look like it’s going to be anytime soon though.
"Ironically the movie started off as such a dumb joke where we were making fun of how uncreative people are by making sequels and remakes and reboots, and the greed involved with people trying to profiteer on stuff that’s already been done."
And Jonah admitted he is worried about the possibility of the movie, which was rumoured to be called ‘MIB 23’, being made because it has turned into the exact thing they were making fun of.
He added: "Now the movie’s become what we’re making fun of, where like the studio needs to release it in the summer. They need it to be a big hit. It’s a big sequel. We’re trying to make fun of it but it’s getting harder and harder to make fun of it the more it gets bigger, and more important to the slate of a big movie studio."
Even if the crossover does happen, Jonah isn’t convinced he’d sign up to appear.
He said: "The script is really funny, it’s just that I have to decide how I want to spend my time and you only get one go around. I’ve made two of them already. I have to really take responsibility for my own career and like really make things that reflect where I am at at that moment."
Plans for the movie were first leaked in 2014 and earlier this year the title and logo were posted online.
It’s not yet known whether ‘Men in Black’ stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, or ‘Jump Street’s Channing would be a part of the project.
