John Goodman for Trumbo?

John Goodman is in talks to join the cast of ‘Trumbo’.

‘The Monuments Men’ star is in early negotiations to take on the role of a film producer in the upcoming movie about American screenwriter and novelist Dalton Trumbo, The Wrap reports.

Helen Mirren has signed on to co-star as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper while ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston will take on the role of Trumbo himself, who was blacklisted from Hollywood after refusing to testify before the House of Un-American Activities Committee in 1947.

Should Goodman accept the offer, he will play film producer Frank King, whose King Brothers Productions hired Trumbo to write for them despite the fact that he’d been blacklisted, while Mirren’s character was a keen supporter of the writer throughout his blacklisting.

Jay Roach is to direct from a script penned by John McNamara and the duo will also produce alongside Michael London and Janice Williams of Groundswell Productions.

‘Trumbo’ would mark a reunion for Goodman and Cranston, who starred together in Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning ‘Argo’.

The 62-year-old actor will next appear in ‘The Gambler’ with Mark Wahlberg.
