John Altman wants to become a full time rock star.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor released a cover of Iggy Pop’s ‘Wild One’ with girlband JOANovARC at Christmas time and has now revealed he wants to focus entirely on music once his character Nick Cotton is killed off in the BBC One soap next month.
He said: "If everything takes off with the group then I will devote at least a year to it all.
"I would give up my acting to pursue it, I have been knocking on the rock ‘n’ roll door for years."
The 62-year-old star has appeared in the popular drama on and off for 30 years but will reportedly be killed by his mother Dot Cotton (June Brown) when she discovers he was responsible for the accident that killed Emma Summerhayes (Anna Acton) and left his daughter-in-law Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) in a coma.
However, John admits he and June are the best of friends in real life and she’s even been to support him in his musical ventures.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "When I was chosen to play her son we hit it off on day one.
"She campaigned to bring me back into the show and it has worked. I can’t remember how many times Nick has been back.
"I have that empathy with June Brown. She came to see me play recently. We support each other. The chemistry works."
