Joey Essex admits to struggling with trust issues

Joey Essex thinks he’s been battling trust issues ever since his mum committed suicide when he was 10.
The 29-year-old TV personality – who is best-known for starring in ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ – discussed his childhood trauma on ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’, saying his mum’s death has ultimately made him "tougher inside".
Joey shared: "I believe I am tough inside. Growing up wasn’t easy.
"I had to deal with a lot of s**t. My mum committed suicide when I was 10 which was difficult.
"It hardened me up a little bit. I can’t explain it. It’s made me tougher inside."
Joey also revealed he’s only been able to say the word "mum" in the last few years.
And he admits that her death has left him struggling with trust issues through most of his life.
He explained: "I only sort of started being able to talk about it openly, saying the word mum three or four years ago.
"I know my mum loved me. But it has given me trust issues. One day she was there one day she was gone."
Meanwhile, Joey recently revealed he is taking a break from romance after his latest heartbreak.
The TV star – who split from former flame Lorena Medina earlier this year – confessed he is enjoying being on his own during the coronavirus lockdown.
Speaking about his love life, Joey – who previously dated fellow TV star Sam Faiers – said: "I’m trying to stay away from the birds at the minute…
"Maybe sliding in DMs and all that."
