Joanna Lumley to visit Japan for ITV documentary

Joanna Lumley will tour Japan for a three-part documentary.
The 70-year-old television host is to front a new ITV series titled ‘Joanna Lumley’s Japan’ about the Asian country as she visits the cold Siberian seas and some of Japan’s 6,800 islands.
Joanna is set to travel over 2,000 miles by boat, train, plane and foot to see the stunning landscapes and cultural heritage of the captivating country.
She said: "Isn’t it odd, we feel we are so familiar with Japan, with sushi and Toshiba, kimonos and Hello Kitty, tsunamis and sake … and yet when we travelled around that spectacular country I couldn’t even guess at the unknown wonders that were in store for us.
"Every moment was thrilling, fascinating and often very moving. With my hand on my heart I can say: please come with me … to Japan!"
Whilst Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV’s controller of factual, added: "Exotic, enchanting, exciting, Japan is a country with so many gifts and with her natural warmth, vibrant curiosity and inimitable humour, Joanna Lumley is uniquely equipped to bring them home to our viewers as she guides us through this latest adventure."
Joanna will begin her tour in Hokkaido – known as Japan’s ‘wild north’ – to see some of the country’s most endangered wild animals before travelling to Honshu, which is the largest of Japan’s islands.
Passing through Tohoku, Joanna will then board the bullet train taking her to the capital of Tokyo, known for its bright lights and skyscrapers before moving onto the ancient capital of Kyoto.
To finish her journey, she will visit Shikoku on foot and then travel onto Kyushu island before visiting the beaches of Kohama, which is one of Japan’s most remote islands.
