Jimmy Page amazed by Stairway to Heaven reaction

Jimmy Page finds it "incredible" people still hold ‘Stairway to Heaven’ in such high regard.
The 72-year-old guitarist is amazed that the song – which the group were recently wrongly accused of plagiarising – still receives accolades from today’s listening public after his guitar solo in the song was praised once again.
Speaking about his solo in the hit song being named the Greatest Guitar Solo ever in a recent Classic Rock magazine poll, he said: "It’s a real thrill that ‘Stairway’ has been voted and nominated here.
"It really honestly is. It’s incredible that the listening public still hold something that came out in 1971 in such great affection, because you do hope that your music is going to last."
Despite the hit song winning a recent accolade, Jimmy admitted the solo is not his finest piece of guitar work.
When asked if the ‘Stairway To Heaven’ solo is his favourite of all time, he added to Classic Rock magazine: "No, but it’s pretty damn good. If everyone else says it’s my best solo then that’s great, that’s good, but there are others that I prefer. I’m not going to name them. I’m not going to argue with the public."
This comes after Led Zeppelin – comprised of Jimmy, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and the late John Bonham – were accused of lifting the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ intro from Spirit’s ‘Taurus’.
But a jury found that while Led Zeppelin did have access to ‘Taurus’, it was decided the songs are not substantially similar.
Jimmy denied allegations that he and Robert penned the classic rock song after hearing ‘Taurus’.
He said in court: "Something like that would stick in my mind. It was totally alien to me."
