Jimmy Carr is considering writing a sitcom

Jimmy Carr has been thinking about writing a sitcom.
The 43-year-old comic is a permanent fixture on TV panel shows, hosting ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ on Channel 4, and is one of the most popular stand-ups in the UK.
Carr is tempted to pen his own character-driven comedy series but worries it would be too much of a "slog" to get right.
In an interview with Loaded.co.uk, he said: "I think I’ve got the best job as it is. I saw Aziz Ansari’s sitcom ‘Masters of None’ and thought, ‘Maybe I could do something like this.’ But something that well-crafted looks easy. On a great sitcom, it looks like everyone is just having fun, but you don’t get to see the eight months of hard meetings and slog in the writers’ room first."
Carr has just seen his stand-up special ‘Funny Business’ become available on streaming service Netflix, and he thinks he is currently at his peak as a stand-up performer.
Despite how confident he feels as a live performer, the 43-year-old comic admits his audiences will always be the judge of his funnyman credentials.
He said: "Not to sound full of myself, but I think I’m getting better at my job. Most people get better at their jobs, and performers are no exception. I’m better at being myself on stage. I probably write fewer jokes now, but more of them work.
"It’s the audience who are the arbiters of what’s funny. There’s no point in me saying something horrible just for shock value. If the audience aren’t laughing, there’s really no point. Comedy has to be ego-free. The audience knows best."
