Jessica Raine quits Call The Midwife

Jessica Raine has quit ‘Call The Midwife’ so she can try to make it in Hollywood.

The 31-year-old actress – who make her final appearance as Jenny Lee at the end of the current series – has admitted she wants to push herself professionally and would like to star in a science-fiction or comedy film in an effort to pursue a career on the big screen.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I am really up for playing someone a million miles from Jenny, much as I love her.

"I would like to explore comedy, I want to do more theatre and I definitely want a future in film. I love science-fiction."

Jessica’s exit will take place in this series final episode tomorrow (09.03.14), and it is said bosses have accepted it is time for them to part ways as she looks to try other roles.

An insider said: "It’s time for Jenny to move on to pastures new."

Late last year, the star admitted she was hoping for a "naughtier side" to her character.

She revealed: "I’m hoping a naughtier side comes out! We’ll see … I’m looking forward to getting some spark, some flirts.

"I don’t know quite yet how I’m going to play Jenny in a relationship because she’s always on the outskirts of something and not quite letting go but she’s clearly found someone who floats her boat. Finally."
