Jessica Chastain’s Secret Scripture finds director

‘The Secret Scripture’ will be directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan.

The ‘Into the Storm’ cinematographer will helm Jessica Chastain in a movie adaptation of Sebastian Barry’s award-winning novel.

After months of searching, Thaddeus has finally been confirmed, having made a name for himself with 1991 drama ‘December Bride’ , 2003 period drama ‘The Heart Of Me’ – starring Helen Bonham Carter – and most recently ‘Stella Days’ in 2011.

Vanessa Redgrave will also star alongside Jessica Chastain, who takes on the lead role of Roseanne McNulty, a 100-year-old woman residing in a mental hospital who secretly writes a book detailing the challenges she faced as a result of religious and political upheavals in Ireland in the 1920s through to the 1930s.

With the mental home facing closure, sympathetic psychiatrist Dr Grene begins investigating her case and trying to piece together Roseanne’s story.

The novel alternates between the journal entries of the doctor and Roseanne, who keeps her diary concealed in the floorboards of her room, unsure if she wants it to be found.

‘The Secret Scripture’ is currently in pre-production, and while there is no official start date for shooting , details are tipped to be confirmed at the European Film Market later this month.
