Jeremy Clarkson would pay for mistakes on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire

Jeremy Clarkson would cough up the money if he made a mistake on ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’.
The host of the quiz show says if he ever caused a contestant to lose money by giving a wrong answer when a player has opted for the Ask The Host lifeline, and it was within "the hundreds", he’d pay the contestant out of his own pocket.
However, he insisted he gotten much "better" at the questions on the upcoming series.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "If it was a low amount – in the hundreds – definitely.
"If I got it wrong though I’d have an uncomfortable night.
"I’ve never cost anyone money. I’ve said I don’t know if I don’t.
"But this time round I’ve been better. I’ve been lucky. They’ve asked me questions I’ve known the answers to."
Earlier this year, a school teacher reached the final question – but decided against playing for the £1 million.
John Robinson walked away with a £500,000 prize after opting against trying to correctly guess which former British Prime Minister had never served as foreign secretary.
The teacher made the right decision as he told Jeremy he would have incorrectly said Anthony Eden, instead of Sir Winston Churchill.
John was disappointed when he discovered his friend Martin – who he earlier rang to help him on a question about the Suez Canal – knew it was Winston but was not too upset because he knew he "needed" him for the £250,000 question.
He said: "Had I saved him for the final question, I’d be a millionaire. But I can’t be too disappointed because I needed him for the £250,000 engineering question.
"There’s a slight bit of disappointment, which I know sounds ridiculous given it’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my life."
The competitor admitted he had no regrets about playing things safe and walking away with the money, as he claimed he could not have "faced" speaking to his girlfriend if he had answered incorrectly and left with his banked £64,000.
He said: "I am not sure I could have faced speaking to Chloe afterwards. I don’t think she would have forgiven me.
"Having never seen that amount of money in my life, I wasn’t going to risk it. It’s not a feeling I would’ve liked to experience."
‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ returns to ITV next week.
