Jennifer Garner says charity work has improved her parenting skills

Jennifer Garner’s says her charity work has made her a better mother.

The ‘Butter’ actress – who has two daughters, Violet, eight, and Seraphina, five, and two-year-old son Samuel with her husband Ben Affleck – started working with children’s rights organisation Save the Children six years ago and she insists helping out families that are struggling has helped her to be less stressed about juggling her own children and her career.

She told the latest issue of People magazine: "It’s given me so much empathy for other moms, and more patience with myself. And with my kids, it’s chilled me out, just knowing eye-to-eye connection matters. It’s so much more simple than we all make it."

Jennifer, 41, was motivated to work with Save The Children because she wanted to help disadvantaged kids in her home country of America.

She added: "There’s so much need all over the world, but for years I kept thinking, ‘What about the kids that I grew up next to in West Virginia?’ So six years ago, I started working with Save the Children, which helps rural America climb out of poverty.

"I’ve seen first hand how a little bit of encouragement from someone telling a mom, ‘You can do this’ can change a kid’s life. Watching the light go on between a mom and her child is a total thrill."
