Jason Watkins wants to do more McDonald and Dodds

Jason Watkins "really" hopes there will be more episodes of ITV drama ‘McDonald & Dodds’.
The 53-year-old actor portrays the titular detective in the upcoming crime series – which is comprised of two two-hour long episodes – alongside Tala Gouveia (DCI McDonald) and he believes viewers will want to see more from the unlikely duo, so he hopes it gets recommissioned by the broadcaster.
Speaking on the ‘Series Linked’ podcast, he said: "Yeah, I’d love to do some more.
"I really hope that audiences connect with it.
"As I say, we’ve done two, two hours, and they’re little films within themselves, but through it is this central relationship, which I hope and I think that audiences will want to see more of."
Jason has compared his alter go to legendary TV detective Inspector Morse whilst he revealed he has come up with a first name for Dodds, but he wants to keep it a mystery for the audiences to work out.
He added: "I’d certainly like to play my Dodds.
"He doesn’t have a first name yet.
"He’s a bit like Morse.
"So I’ve thought of it, I think there’s a rather obvious one for Dodds, but I’ll let audiences and listeners work out what that might be.
"But yeah, I really hope we do more of that."
Meanwhile, ‘The Crown’ actor has been working with David Tennant again on another series about serial killer Dennis Nilson called ‘Des’ for ITV, which he described as "very different from ‘McDonald & Dodds’.
He said: "It’s very different to ‘McDonald & Dodds’. It’s based on a real, obviously Dennis Nilsen is the most prolific serial killer in British criminal history.
"And I play a biographer, who had around the time of the murders in 1978 was a Royal biographer.
"So as this case unfolded on the television, he became interested in it and he asked if he could go and interview him. "So he went and interviewed Dennis Nilsen while Danny Mays, detective inspector Jay was chief inspector, interviewing him as well."
‘McDonald & Dodds’ hits screens on March 1 at 8pm.
