Jason Manford tests positive after COVID-19 antibody test

Jason Manford tested positive after taking a coronavirus antibody test.

The 39-year-old comedian revealed he had contracted the contagious respiratory disease at some stage after taking an antibody test for "peace of mind", after he experienced mild symptoms in March.

He took to Twitter to share the news, writing: "Looks like a few of you owe me (or my charity of choice) some money! I tested positive for the antibodies so must have had it back in March when I thought."

"For folks asking, I had mild symptoms, no smell/taste and a temp for 2 days. No cough. (sic)"

The test traces blood for coronavirus antibodies to see if they have already beaten the virus and gained some immunity to it.

Though Jason has received a positive antibody test, it doesn’t mean he is immune to the virus and can still pass it on to others.

The ‘Scarborough’ actor previously revealed he asked his doctor for a test after his "weirdest experience ever" having lost all taste and smell.

He wrote at the time: "Went for a Covid antibody test yesterday. Waiting on results. Pretty sure I’ve had it quite early on so want peace of mind. Anyone else think they’ve had it?

"Yeah, I did like a funny video about it cos I thought it was because I’d slept on a plastic sheet in the spare bed! Then I lost taste and smell (which is the weirdest experience ever!). (sic)"

A fan asked how he got the test, and Jason admitted he went through a private doctor and paid £80.

He said: "Just paid for one in the end."

Jason has received a special community award for his help during the pandemic.

He was "chuffed" to receive The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester Special Recognition Award after volunteering with Rainbow Haven, to support refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants in Manchester and Salford and the Stockport Volunteer Car Scheme, by providing journeys for adults in Stockport who struggle to use public transport.
