Jason Manford jokes he felt ‘livid’ after being rejected by Tesco

Jason Manford has joked he felt "absolutely livid" after being rejected for a job at Tesco.
The 38-year-old comedian offered to work at the supermarket chain for just £8 an hour – but he was rejected by recruiters via email, leaving the TV star to say he was just "trying to do [his] bit" amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Jason – who applied for a customer services role – joked on Twitter: "Absolutely livid @Tesco . I was only trying to do my bit [laughing emoji] I hope the better person got and enjoys the job, I’ll be watching [eyes emoji] (sic)"
In response to Jason’s application, a Tesco spokesperson said: "We’ve recruited around 50,000 temporary workers during the Coronavirus pandemic and they have played a huge part in helping us to serve customers safely during these unprecedented times.
"Jason’s skills would have no doubt brought a lot of joy to our customers and colleagues, so it’s a shame he didn’t make the deadline for this vacancy.
"But should he ever want to join the Tesco family in the future, we’d be happy to receive an application from him."
Meanwhile, Jason revealed earlier this year that he feels "embarrassed" he doesn’t have a "proper job".
The comedian has had a successful career touring across the country – but his family sometimes tease him about his job, because they don’t see his stand-up gigs as real work.
He said: "My uncles and brothers don’t see it as work. I can see them seething about it like, ‘Yeah, you must be tired talking for two hours a night’. To them, what I do is not a proper job – and I do project that a little bit.
"I’m slightly embarrassed sometimes about what I do. I’m very lucky I’m in a job that pays well and I love it – and that’s so rare, that’s like two per cent of the population."
