James Moore: It’s still surreal being on Emmerdale

James Moore still feels like a new character on ‘Emmerdale’ – despite being on the soap for a year.
The 26-year-old star marked his one-year anniversary since he joined the ITV show yesterday (05.06.19) by admitting it still feels "so surreal" being on the programme, but he also feels "so ingrained" in the long-running soap.
He wrote on Twitter: "My first @emmerdale episode was one year ago today! It’s so surreal because I still feel ‘new’ but at the same time so ingrained in the show. One year ago, Ryan walks up to Charity on a park bench – and his life, and mine, changes forever. (sic)"
James took to the social media site on Sunday (02.06.19) to praise his co-star Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) for winning the Best Actress prize at the British Soap Awards the night before.
And James has tasted success himself since he joined the show, winning the Newcomer accolade at the National Television Awards in January for his portrayal of Ryan.
But the Dales actor had to keep his gong at his mum’s house because her abode is "a lot tidier" than his flat.
He told BANG Showbiz and other media: "If they let me take the award home I might keep it at my mum’s, because I feel like my mum’s house is a lot tidier than my flat.
"I want this to be well looked after, so it will go on my mum’s mantelpiece."
What’s more, James – who suffers from ataxic cerebral palsy – has called for soaps and TV shows to do more for actors who are disabled.
He added: "’Emmerdale’ and soap in general is brilliant in really raising the bar, but I think more does need to be done … casting people always are looking for ability, gender and race.
"It should be based on talent and being the right person for the role."
