James May says Richard Hammond wants electric car

James May says Richard Hammond wants to buy an electric car.
The ‘Grand Tour’ star has revealed his co-host is considering following his eco-friendly lead by investing in a more environmentally friendly vehicle, although he "hasn’t quite" made the switch just yet.
James is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column as saying: "I’ve been driving electrically since 2014.
"They’re quite magical cars – quiet and smooth, a bit science-fictiony. Hammond fancies one as well, he just hasn’t quite taken the plunge."
James’ comments come after he hit back at fellow presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s claims that environmental activist Greta Thunberg, 16, has "killed the car show".
The 56-year-old star recently told BANG Showbiz: "He’s feeling threatened or something. I don’t think Greta’s destroyed car programmes.
"We’re still making ours and as far as I saw the other day the BBC are still making [‘Top Gear’] and there are still quite a few on the internet."
Jeremy, 59, hit out at Greta, and claimed school pupils are taught that vehicles are "evil".
He previously said: "Everyone I know under 25 isn’t the slightest bit interested in cars – Greta Thunberg has killed the car show. They’re taught at school, before they say ‘Mummy and Daddy’, that cars are evil, and it’s in their heads."
And Richard has agreed, saying: "I hate to say it, but I think Jeremy is right. Young people don’t care about cars.
"How many kids now are growing up with posters of cars on their bedroom wall?"
Greta made news in 2018 when she inspired international youth climate strikes and later sailed across the Atlantic in a "zero carbon" yacht to attend the UN climate action summit in August 2019.
