James Martin to have Top Gear meeting

James Martin is set to have a meeting with bosses this week about taking over as host for ‘Top Gear’.
The kitchen legend has been tipped to take over the reins of the revamped motoring show since Chris Evans stepped down in June and it seems executives have finally set the ball rolling by pulling him for a "crunch talk".
A source told The Sunday People newspaper: "James’ nose was put out of joint when he didn’t get the ‘Top Gear’ job last time around [when Chris nabbed the job]. He felt he was perfect for it and should have at least been considered."
The self-confessed petrol-head set tongues wagging about the presenting role last week when he was left squirming live on television when Rylan Clark-Neal challenged him.
James said: "I’m well known now so I can get to go backstage in the lovely hospitality area. No I’m not saying it, I’m staying silent. This show stresses me out enough."
Not ready to give up on his exclusive just yet, the ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ host continued to push.
He said: "If you were asked would you consider it?"
Refusing to give anything away, James turned his head away and attempted to move on to the next segment.
Meanwhile, ‘Top Gear’ has been the hot topic of conversation since the radio presenter quit in June – a year into his three-year contract – after the final episode of the show pulled in its lowest viewing figures since 2002.
Although rumours are swirling about who will take Chris’ place, it’s believed Matt LeBlanc – who co-hosted the last series – will return as the solo presenter later this year.
A source said recently: "Matt is going to get the big job on his own. There are already active negotiations and he’s almost certain to sign now that he doesn’t have to work with Chris. Chris won’t be replaced but Matt will become the star presenter surrounded by the existing team."
